New Book – “The Journey of a Grunt”

Q1. A major part of society is unhappy with their Jobs at present, what do you think may be the reason for that?

Dominick –  In a world where everything is at our fingertips, people want everything now. The problem with that is success isn’t a search engine; you don’t get what you want instantly.  To succeed you have to put in the blood, sweat, and tears— and that’s a fact.

Q2. Tell us about your first Job and what you learnt from it.

Dominick – Landscaping at my dad’s company, my specialty was pulling weeds and picking up cigarette butts.  I learned, regardless of the job, you must give it 100%. It is the little details that make the difference.

Regardless of the job, you must give it 100%.

Q3. What is the best way in which an Introvert can deal with a dominating co-worker(s) ?

Dominick   Address the problem, but have a plan.  For those who typically avoid confrontation, you need a written plan of attack. Write down your issues, and then prepare your answers and key points you’d like to discuss.  Keep your notes with you and keep detailing your thoughts, each time you review your notes your confidence will grow.  When it’s time to address the dominating co-worker, you’ll be prepared to stand up for yourself and put them in their place.

Write down your issues and create a written plan of attack

Q4. What are your views on Office/Work Politics?

Dominick – Office/work politics are definitely part of life, but I say if you take the high road, then you can’t go wrong. Treat everyone with respect and how you’d like to be treated and you’ll be fine.

Treat everyone with respect and how you’d like to be treated

Q5. How should one stay motivated at work?

Dominick – Set goals, write them down, and challenge yourself. Most importantly, compete every day—with yourself. If you can get a little bit better every day, in the long run, you win.

Q6. Share a personal experience where you had faced a challenging situation at work and how did you deal with it.

Dominick – Sure, a few years back me and 60 other sales reps got let go(fired) on a phone call. How did I handle it; I used it as fuel.  Having studied inspiration for over twenty years I knew I’d be better because of it.  I used the time off to launch a company, finish a book, and get a better job. It all works out.

I used it as fuel and devoted the time off to launch a company, finish a book, and get a better job.

Q7. What’s the best advice for someone who hates their Job but has responsibilities due to which he/she cannot make a shift?

Dominick – Don’t give up on the dream. Do one thing every day that moves you closer to your goal. Inch by inch you’ll get to where you want to be.

Do one thing every day that moves you closer to your goal

Q8. Any advice for freshly graduates/freshers looking for work/exposure

Dominick – Rome wasn’t built in a day. You don’t get to be the boss the first day. Nothing great comes without greater sacrifice. Pay your dues and work your butt off.

Q9. Do you feel that Employers can help their employees perform better at their job? If yes, how?

Dominick – Support, support, support, I believe we each have a unique skillset and if an employer can help develop those talents everyone wins. An employer has to believe in their workforce, no micromanaging, empower.

How to feel passionate at work

Q10. Lastly, what are your thoughts on the current job market and how can one deal with the ever changing effects of it without getting demotivated.

Dominick – Today’s market is full of opportunity, and it’s global. If you can’t find a job, keep applying. If you get fired, keep fighting.  If you can’t find the right job- create it.  And remember, the words of the great Walt Disney – “If you can dream it, you can do it”
