NABARUN CHAKRABARTI

Being an artist at the core of his personality, Nabarun finds freedom to be an inseparable part of him. Probably the idea of being his own boss roots itself to this reality. For over 10 years he was doing the regular 9-5 gig initially as a 3d animation artist and faculty member and later in production houses as lead animator. Finally he quit the rat race in 2010 and dove head down into Digital Marketing or Internet Marketing.

During that time there were no institutes or learning centers for digital marketing but his attraction to the IM lifestyle was so much that this fact was insignificant to him and he took it on my onus to learn the ropes and fly high in this field.

The route wasn’t easy as it took a lot of money, time and failure to finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. He also happens to be a drummer and a pen and ink artist, which are muses he spend time on as an amateur and not a professional. Nabarun now realized that the musical rhythms and synchronizations’ of the limbs and the mind played an equally important role in his recognition as a fine digital marketer as it developed his creative and analytical balance while deciphering digital marketing solutions. Over the years of this solitary life dedicated to learning digital marketing proved rewarding as today Nabarun is a successful Affiliate Marketer with the ability to earn enough without keeping a 9-5. Although he resigned from the position of National Technical Head of a Premiere Digital Marketing Institute very recently, it has opened up the avenues and will to scale up his now full-time affiliate marketing gig.

Q1. When did you start working on more than one Job or as they like to call it ‘side hustle’?

Nabarun – As I happen to be a multipotentialite with multiple interests in life and skills to self learn them, it has always been my domain to side hustle 2 or 3 other interests at any given time. As for jobs, I never had the inclination to professionalise my interests and whatever I did was to cater to my own taste and creative liking. I am not much of a people pleaser and seldom do I find myself conducting things on peoples’ terms.

Q2. How has life changed after you decided to work solely for yourself?

Nabarun – Life has always been beautiful to me and I have been blessed with having some of the finest minds as my friends and companions. On a personal front, it is a great advantage especially in a country like India, if you have a financial freedom there are a lot of other interests you can put your mind to. Unlike the rat race where most of the time and focus is taken up on everyday routines, I am fortunate to break free of that loop and indulge in interests that invigorate my mind and soul. This idea of life to work for my own self has actually enabled me to set my own goals and work smart to achieve them irrespective of the circumstances and yes, this financial advantage of online money making has added greatly to this lifestyle setup.

Q3. What is the most difficult part of going solo?

Nabarun – In my opinion, one of the most difficult challenges of going solo is trusting your own instincts and beliefs. I say that because the amount of naysayers that I have come across is enough to dismantle a healthy mind into an asylum fit lunatic. It is by nature that the number of people who will demoralize you for anything that is out of the ordinary outnumbers the ones who will support you. And the closer you reach to your goal the intensity of this naysaying will reach a peak. It is that indominable trust and strength of your belief and self is what will drive you through to the next level of self made man or woman.

Q4. What are the challenges that you had to face so far?

Nabarun – (Hahahahaha), Challenges are part of any deed that turns out successful. For me acquiring skills were not really a challenge but connecting with the right people from whom I could pave my own learning was probably the most difficult challenge. I was masterminding with a number of IM groups both elementary as well as advanced. Affiliate marketing being a very guarded secret of select IMers it was really difficult to connect with the like minds and learn the tricks of the road.

Q5. How do you take out time for your family and friends?

Nabarun – For me, I plan out my day the moment I wake up from bed and I always prioritize work over family or friends. By Gods grace I am very fast with my work and this enables me to spend the later part of the day with family and friends almost regularly. So not a problem with that.

Q6. Did you doubt yourself at any point? How did you overcome it?

Nabarun – When 99 out of 100 people tell you that what you are doing is shit and wasting time, any sane man would believe that what he is doing is actually wasting time and would quit. I had my share of this self doubt too but I didn’t quit. I never let then know of my pursuance with Internet Marketing but I silently and solitarily kept working towards my goal. There was a point when even my parents had no clue of how I was spending all day locked inside my room and only coming out for lunch and evening walk.

Q7. How do you manage more than one workplace culture?

Nabarun – As I have never been a people pleaser it has always been difficult for me to adjust to corporate work cultures. I was fortunate to have very nice people in the places where I worked and some of them have even grown to be my friends in the long run. I kept myself to my own with respect and regard for everyone and listened to everyone with attention. I feel that living in different work cultures enables you to learn the skills to tolerate and at the same time adjust to different ideas of lifestyle and work and thought processes. This has always helped me to grow my man management skills and become really good in my communication skills.

Q8. What is your mantra for staying patient ?

Nabarun – Patience is something that you need to cultivate. It doesn’t come to you naturally. People who spend time in being happy with their own company tend to be more patient. Probably that is how my level of patience grew.

Q9. How does it feel to be your own Boss?

Nabarun – Well it feels like you are at the top of the world and the world is your playground.

Q10. Advice for Beginners and Young minds who are starting off

Nabarun – The only piece of advice for early entrepreneurs is to keep your focus intact in life. Take time to decide on it but once decided grow it like a banyan tree that gives shelter to others but stands tall even in the toughest storms.
