“I started my Fitness Journey at the Age of 40” – Rich DeWees

Q1. Your Instagram is full of Fitness Content. When did you start Body building and Why?

Rich – I started my fitness journey 14 years ago at the age of 40.  I realized I had become overweight and soft. I had always been athletic, but I had no workout routine.  I had never been to a gym.  Once I started it’s been an up and down journey that has allowed me to take back control of my health and fitness. I have taken large strides in the last couple of years, including becoming a certified personal trainer. I don’t consider myself a body builder, but I am now a fitness professional.  The great thing is, I believe everyone can do what I have done.  That is why I post the content I do.

I believe Everyone can do what I have done.

Q2. Do you think Health is being taken for Granted by people of all ages? What may be the reason for that?

Rich I absolutely believe health is being taken for granted. I think human nature tells us bad things won’t happen to us and our society has gotten lazy and addicted to convenience. As a result, we eat poorly, we consume fast food and processed food and we get little or no exercise. This is a bad combination for health. Exercise and proper diet are two non-negotiables to be fit and healthy.

Q3. Tell us the difference you felt after you started taking Fitness seriously.

RichThe biggest change has been in my confidence.  When I took control of my fitness I began to feel a greater sense of control in the other areas of my life.  I was able to physically do whatever I needed to do and I had plenty of energy.

The biggest change has been in my confidence.

Q4. What does your daily routine look like ?

Rich – I am currently self-employed, running my new venture Rich DeWees Consulting, so my schedule is pretty flexible.  Typically, I am up early, often at 4 AM. I take care of my dog, Chloe, with a morning walk, then I get to the gym at 5 AM.  I always start with stretching and some time on the foam roller. I do cardio work in the mornings, at least, 60 minutes. I get back home and eat while catching up on correspondence.  Depending on appointments I spend most of the morning on research and creating.  Making workout plans, writing blog posts, creating content for social media and working on a future book project are all creative things I like to tackle early in the day.  After lunch, I go back to the gym for strength training.  I am blessed to have my 22-year-old son, Colter, as a workout partner.  We spend about an hour lifting.  We use a four-day split {chest, back, arms and legs} to target the full body. My afternoons are about appointments and personal growth. Several days a week I teach group fitness classes at my gym. My wife, Lisa, and I have always tried to make it a priority to eat supper together as a family so that is the highlight of my evening.  I get to bed early, usually around 9 PM. That was probably more than you wanted, but that’s my life.

Q5. How do you keep yourself Motivated to workout every day ?

Rich – I know where I was and where I was heading before decided to take control of my health. I never want to go back to that place.  I look around and I see people struggling because of obesity, poor diet and lack of exercise and I know I don’t want to be them.  My response to these observations is to get up today and do what other won’t so tomorrow I can do what others can’t.

Q6. Were you ever into Bad Health habits like Smoking or Drinking? What’s your take on quitting?

Rich – Thankfully I never went down that path.  I was raised with a standard that avoided those habits.  I however, have been a victim of overeating and poor decision making regarding food.  The key to change begins in the mind with a decision to change.  Once that is done you must take physical steps to support the decision.  Addictions are tough and require help, but anyone can change if they want to.

Q7. The number one reason people give for not going to the Gym is Time. How did you manage to overcome that excuse ?

Rich – I created time for the gym by getting up earlier.  At first it was hard, but I adapted quickly.  I then found my days were more productive so it became a win/win situation. We always find time for the things we prioritize.

We always find time for the things we Prioritize.

Q8. Give us 5 everyday habits to maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

Rich

1 : Get up early.  It sets up your day to be productive.

2 : Workout. Taking control of your body will help you take control of your life.

3 : Eat right. Eating a balance of protein, fat and carbohydrate, ideally from natural sources.

4 : Treat people with respect. Be nice, it’s not that hard.

5 : Hustle. Your work ethic is the one thing you always have control over.

Q9. Who is your Biggest Role Model and Why ?

Rich The easy answer for me is Jesus, but modern day I am learning much from Gary Vaynerchuk and Lewis Howes. They both have built great success and are big on motivation and encouragement.

I am a follower of Jesus.

Q10. Last but not the least, How did 2017 treat you and what re your Goals for 2k18 ?

Rich 2017 was a very interesting year.  It brought some huge changes for me.  I left a very toxic situation, leading to launching my own business, Rich DeWees Consulting.  I am super excited about 2018.  My greatest goal is to help as many people as possible find clarity and passion in their lives, leading them to become the very best version of themselves.

Second, I am very focused on making sure I continue to take care of myself and my family.  Life is too short to be sick, tired and miserable, so I am going to do whatever I need to do to make sure I am none of those things. My most immediate goal is to get my website up and running so people can find me and I can help them unleash their inner greatness. Very soon you will be able to find all of my services at richdewees.com.
