Q1. Thank you for being a Feature here Yash. I have been following your work for quite some time now and figured you’d be a perfect fit for #InspireMe.

Why don’t you tell our readers us how you started your journey?

Yash – Well, I had started my journey at a very young age , I was 15 when I had an option of choosing science, commerce or arts in my school, most probably I was getting promoted to class 9.  At that time all the kids used to listen to english commercial songs of Akon, Eminem or Linkin park. Kolkata was not much educated about electronic music (EDM ) but by the time I proceeded to class 10, I really got fascinated by Trap music and other edm genres. Youtube and soundcloud was the best gateway for me knowing about edm music which I was utilizing at that time. Music and DJ-ing
was just a hobby for me and honestly I had no idea how to even operate the DJ console at that time. By the time I got into college the hobby for electronic music became a Passion and that was the time I thought of making it my Profession.

I Learnt DJ-ing from a Professional Institute when I got into 2nd year but by that time I had already won “The Intercollege War of Djs” when I was in 1st year. Like I said Youtube is the best teacher. I watched video tutorials about how to operate a DJ console and that’s what helped me grow in this profession.

My hobby for electronic music became a passion and that was the time I thought of making it my Profession.

Q2. Have you always been into Music or is it something which got onto you after being Inspired by someone?

Yash I was never into english commercial music or any kinda genres neither my family was so musically educated. I’m from an orthodox marwari family so bollywood was something I used to listen to when I was young. Well I still do and some tracks are nice. My friends inspired me and class 9-10 was the time when I made new friends in school who made me listen to other genres of music apart from Bollywood. That’s what made me discover that Music is Endless and once you fall into it you keep on falling.

Music is Endless and once you fall into it you keep on falling.

Q3. In a world where Music is getting more and more mechanical and automated, tell us about your early struggles.

Yash – Now days the methods of making music and playing them in the clubs have become very advanced and convenient at the same time. Earlier we had to struggle alot to know and gather knowledge about DJ-ing and music production but now days any person can be a professional DJ just by staying at home and surfing the Internet. The tools are cheaper now, the time I started my career the machines used for DJ-ing were very expensive  so I couldn’t buy any in the initial days. Taking advantage of the new tech is what I prefer is an asset to us so I studied alot about the technical stuff in DJ-ing and its gears which make me any flexible using any console or system to DJ.

Initial days yes there was a struggle in playing and making people dance and enjoy because the gears were not that advanced, my 1st player was CDJ 200 which only supported CDs, so I had to burn the CDs containing my music in it which I had planned to play on my Shows. Now, we can play from pendrives, laptops and other sources.

Take advantage of new technogies which in my eyes is an Asset.

Q4. Who has supported you throughout your journey and are there any people who still think you’ve chosen a wrong path?

Please feel free to acknowledge all those who motivate you, we highly appreciate gratitude.

Yash – Well there were many people who said it’s useless to do DJ-ing as a profession cause it’s a profession which cannot exist throughout your life, some said it gets over by the end of your 40’s max to max and after that what will you do ?

I didn’t listen to them and I took this step cause of my passion, not thinking about how long will I go
with this. My Younger brother supported me and he still does. There were people coming and going
in my life due to this profession. My Dad used to think it is a worthless thing to do and now he is my
Biggest Fan.

Q5. I am curious to know about your first ever show. Can you fill us on that?

Yash – My god….my 1st ever show was not big, infact I played from a laptop DJ-ing software called Virtual DJ in a small restro pub in kolkata somewhere near Deshapriya park. My pay was INR 250 and I gave a damn about the money cause I wanted to just play and see how I perform.

The question was coming to my head was – Will everyone enjoy when I play? Ultimately I played and it was a success, they all started dancing and enjoying. I got a 2nd offer from the owner of the property to perform the next week after seeing such a response. My confidence got boosted up after that show plus I got to make new friends there who helped me later on in my journey.

I gave a damn about the money cause I wanted to just play and see how I perform.

Q6. You’ve been all over the place lately, bagging some pretty huge gigs. Which one do you feel is your breakthrough?

Yash – Well every gig helped me grow bigger and better and no gig was small, they all helped me equally. But Bangalore, Lucknow & Goa were amazing experiences. When I performed there, many people heard me and appreciated my music, plus people in kolkata who like me as an artist gave me a thumbs up for spreading my music outside the city.

My 1st club Privy ultra lounge was an amazing breakthrough to be honest, as from there everyone from the industry got to know me.

Q7. Have people started noticing your work? What’s the response been like?

Yash – Well I am still not at all big. I have a limited circle of people who see my work and a limited cliental who hire me, there is a long way to go and build my career in a better way.

So far the response has been superb, no one got unsatisfied with my work and that’s what has kept me going.

The response of my audience have been superb that’s what has kept me going.

Yash Some mistakes can never be forgotten, I have made major mistakes in life which I cannot fix. I tried taking shortcuts and doing things which I shouldnt have done in the past.
